Today in 1961 Yuri Gagarin became the first human to travel into space. He orbited the earth once.

I was six then. I became a kid that was in love with the idea of going into space. I can remem­ber lying on the floor with feet up. like an inverted chair, my friends pre­tend­ing to be astro­nauts on space missions.
