unpredictable thoughts

It was 98 crispy degrees.

A perfect time to go see Midnight in Paris.

Waiting.

See it. Fabulous.

There is a quiet to cobbles in summer.

Everyone moves slowly in the heat, the rumble is dampened by the moist hot air. The clicking of heels is dull and less staccato. The rush to the subway less a blur.

It is a time when eyes open slowly and a dream state continues long past expectations.

Losses

Most losses add something —
a new socket or silence,
a gap in a personal
archipelago of islands.

We have that difference
to visit—itself
a going-on of sorts.

But there are other losses
so far beyond report
that they leave holes
in holes only

like the ends of the
long and lonely lives
of castaways
thoughts dead but not.

I choose to identify with the underprivileged, I choose to identify with the poor, I choose to give my life for the hungry, I choose to give my life for those who have been left out of the sunlight of opportunity…This is the way I’m going. If it means suffering a little bit, I’m going that way. If it means sacrificing, I’m going that way. If it means dying for them, I’m going that way, because I heard a voice saying “DO SOMETHING FOR OTHERS.”

I watched every moment of this video in awe.
Manned space flight makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The end of the shuttle program makes me wonder when there will be another such big idea that will send explorers beyond expected boundaries.

from NASA:
Cameras mounted on the two solid rocket boosters that helped propel space shuttle Atlantis into orbit on July 8 provide unique angles of the launch from the Kennedy Space Center and their subsequent water landing downrange in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is odd each time I open up Flipboard and watch the cover photos change with images shared. Each is unexpected and my thoughts unpredictable. Here is one of those moments.

The unpredictablility is enjoyable.

Walking the neighborhood

Now that I have my nifty Instagram app I’ve always got a 2 1/4 camera with me. I’ve always loved to shoot square. I’ve begun taking shots each time I walk the neighborhood. It’s easier to do this now that I am a full time pedestrian — no more car.

This is a Lomo-esque shot just a couple blocks from home. I have taken many photos of it. I like to explore the same places from a different point of view. This is an amazing building. It has been empty now for at least a couple years. I wonder when someone from Brooklyn will buy it and turn it into condos. So much Philadelphia property has been bought up by Brooklyn developers.

via cycle - roof full of bikes

Happy to have my digital Lomo in my iPhone. This is a shot that I snapped after having to dig through my bike bag. I just can’t imagine the number of bicycles are on the roof of that van. Who put them up there and how? Where did they come from. Just crazy.
