The simplicity of the slinky is pure delight.

I have one on my desk and play with it often when mulling a problem. I view it from one angle and then another. I listen to the sound as I rock it back and forth. I explore it’s line and displacement of space.

It quiets my thoughts. It provides space for clarity.

The toy was invented and developed by naval engineer Richard James in the early 1940s and demonstrated at Gimbels department store inPhiladelphiaPennsylvania in November 1945. Today on this extremely gray day — one devoid of energy. A strange change that the end of summer brings and we settle into the coming of winter. What to do? Embrace the season! But don’t be afraid of color.

Here are a few chairs that we picked up for free when a business was closing down. We gave them a light sanding and spray painted them with a combination of colors that add energy, but not too much. The brighten the darkest of winter days or nights.

On Facebook today I read a post from my cuz that said plainly:

just watched stacey’s iPhone get run over by a pick-up truck on the bypass. .…. Phone is fine. How?.…Otter Box. Enough said.

That’s pretty meaningful. So I pointed my browser to www.otterbox.com . Some pretty impressive products if you have the need to protect any of your mobile technology devices. I think I would want this crazy yellow case if I wanted to cover up my iPhone or iPod.

I’m into seeing the beauty of my Apple products. This is tempting though.

John Maeda lives at the intersection of technology and art, a place that can get very complicated. I understand that place very well. I’m posting this talk because there is so much of it that I relate with.

This talk creates more questions than answers. It is about observing, questioning, and experimenting. Creating something new that adds to the universe. Something that brings joy. Organizing found objects and everyday things to make something totally new.

John Maeda uses imagination to inspire. Walk one day in John Maeda’s shoes. Think, what would John Maeda do with this? Open your mind to new and creative ways to move forward in whatever you do.

BTW, Mr Maeda is no longer at MIT he is now President of Rhode Island School of Design. Makes me think about how much fun it could be to be back in school. You can find out more about what he is doing there. http://www.risd.edu/president/

I have always loved poetry. It has drawn some of the most vivid pictures I have ever seen. In this case Ronnie Bruce a film student at Temple University visualizes the words of poet Taylor Mali using typography and animation. In its’ execution we do not lose sight of the meaning or the picture they draw — we gain new insight into the pacing and tone as the poet speaks. We read the words as the poet says them; burnishing them into our heart and mind.

This little film realizes the potential of communicators when they do good work. It is not spectacular. It is not just clever. It speaks, we think, and understand.

acrobat poison dart frog

Life has been a bit complex recently. I’ve always driven into the skid so to speak. But this time it’s different the economic atmosphere has much thinner air these days. It’s difficult to breathe.

I decided to take some time to focus on nothing and breathe deeply. Quiet time reestablishes balance.

Cover creation from Peter Belanger on Vimeo.

Having done this kind of work for more years than I’m actually interested in admitting to — this video stripped away the intellectual and considered part of the process for me.

It’s sorta depressing actually.

All this work for that cover. Hmmm.

working on the new heavybubble gallery

Working on getting the new adventure in shape. Still lots of boxes. Still no internet. Still tired. This post is just a short note so you know I’ve survived.

Lots of work too do to get settled. Excited about the possibilities of the new space. We need to paint here too. White is needed. This is a look at some sticky bubbles that David and Erica picked up for us. I think they’ll be terrific on the door. When we open the door to the street you’ll see our bubbles.

Branding for two spaces is going to be challenging.

I’ve got some ideas though.
