— unpredictable thoughts

I’m not sure why it’s been so long since I’ve walked there, but today I did and it was strangely overcast and humid when I started out. But it wasn’t long before the clouds parted and blue skies were revealed.

The Race Street Pier looks it’s best in late spring. The heat of summer hasn’t taken it’s toll on all the plants. Today the sailing club was out in numbers as the tacked back and forth on the incoming tide. Barges passed by slowly, the tugboats easing them along.

It’s a wonderful place to sit and think.

It’s wonderful to have such beautiful sites right outside one’s door.

We love Old City.

This week I text a pal to see if she wants to have lunch at Steven Starrs French Bistro Parc. It’s as close to sitting on a Paris street as one can get while still being in Philadelphia. I got a text back, “Ah… would love to but we’re in Paris.”  With a pic. Not this one. This one is in Philadelphia.

Surprise. For the holidays.

On Saturday, October 30, 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia brought together over 650 choristers from 28 participating organizations to perform one of the Knight Foundation’s “Random Acts of Culture” at Macy’s in Center City Philadelphia. Accompanied by the Wanamaker Organ — the world’s largest pipe organ

There is a quiet to cobbles in summer.

Everyone moves slowly in the heat, the rumble is dampened by the moist hot air. The clicking of heels is dull and less staccato. The rush to the subway less a blur.

It is a time when eyes open slowly and a dream state continues long past expectations.

On the race street pier

Another neighborhood shot. This is the newly opened Race Street Pier. It was designed by Field Operations who worked on New York’s High Line. The new park is awesome. We sat by the edge for what seemed like ages; watching the boats sail by. New morning coffee spot.

Walking the neighborhood

Now that I have my nifty Instagram app I’ve always got a 2 1/4 camera with me. I’ve always loved to shoot square. I’ve begun taking shots each time I walk the neighborhood. It’s easier to do this now that I am a full time pedestrian — no more car.

This is a Lomo-esque shot just a couple blocks from home. I have taken many photos of it. I like to explore the same places from a different point of view. This is an amazing building. It has been empty now for at least a couple years. I wonder when someone from Brooklyn will buy it and turn it into condos. So much Philadelphia property has been bought up by Brooklyn developers.

now.

Low tonight 78°, whaaa… This is the current temperature. 94° at 7:45 pm. The low is going to be a chilly 78 degrees. At least in the desert it gets cool at night. An air-conditioned bunker sounds like a good idea. Rain in the forcast doesn’t seem to be poised to give much relief. A good time to hunker down and work or see movies. I’m so confused.

Thanks to my pal Maryann Devine for turning me on to this video. Lot’s of Philadelphia Arts & Culture in one place. The Opera Company gets with flash mobs and performs at Reading Terminal Market. Other established arts organizations need to get out and bring art and performance to everyday places.

Great job Opera Company of Philadelphia!
